Is it bright enough to read by?

No, and that is deliberate. Under 60 lumens is a glow on a shelf, not a reading light. If you want to actually read a page, that is what PageGlow is for.

Will it really hold books up?

Yes. It is laser-cut iron with proper weight behind it, not a printed plastic shell. It braces a row the way a bookend should.

Is there a cable to hide?

None. A button battery sits inside the hanging light, so it works on any shelf in any room with no outlet nearby.

Does it only work in October?

The Ghost and Witch designs are seasonal. The Street Lantern reads as a vintage street lamp and stays up all year without looking odd.
